Why You Should Visit the Ocala Fire Museum

Fire Department Uniform

1883, a large fire started to ravage Ocala. The Benjamin & Company Store was in flames, and the fire had the potential to spread throughout the town. Because the fire department didn’t have enough volunteers or water to fight the flames, the fire destroyed five blocks of the town. When you visit the Ocala Fire Museum, you can learn more about this fire and the history of the local fire department. If you visit the city, be sure to make it to this Ocala attraction.

Shortly after the fire, the town created its first official fire hose company. Over time, the fire department has only grown. Today, the Ocala Fire Rescue is responsible for putting out fires and keeping the tourists and locals in Ocala safe. There are seven fire stations in the town and more than 120 personnel.

In the past, the equipment used by the fire department was much more simple. Throughout the years, firefighting has evolved in ways that are difficult to imagine. After visiting the Ocala Fire Museum, you’ll have a better understanding of the progression of the fire department. You can take a self-guided tour and get a taste of history.

If you’re looking for a free Ocala attraction, you should head to this museum. Admission is always free. You can visit between Monday and Friday from 8am to 5pm.
