Outdoor Attractions in Ocala: Lake Weir

Located in Marion County, Lake Weir is a gem for tourists and locals in Ocala. The 5,700 acre lake is surrounded by beaches, residential communities, and recreational areas. Find out more about Lake Weir and how it can make your vacation more memorable.

What is Lake Weir?

Lake Weir is a large lake in Central Florida. There is fishing, boating, and swimming allowed in the lake. Whatever time of year you visit, you can find something fun to do.

The lake is fed by springs and gets as deep as 20 feet in some parts. As a result, it’s a great place for fishing. You can catch largemouth bass, bluegill, and sunfish. In the deeper parts, you can catch catfish. However, be sure to get your fishing license before you attempt to do any fishing. You can get one online or at a bait shop.

The Carney Island Conservation and Recreation Area is located on the western portion of the lake. There, you can find multiple boat ramps open to the public. Additionally, you can find bathrooms, docks, and vehicle parking. You can rent a boat or kayak and start exploring the lake.

If you’d rather stay out of the water, you can do some hiking. There are approximately five miles of hiking trails. The flat trails are easy to explore and give you a chance to see wildlife.
